Storm Waives Joyner Holmes and Haley Gorecki

SEATTLE – In compliance with the league’s roster finalization deadline, the Seattle Storm today announced that the team has waived forward Joyner Holmes and guard Haley Gorecki.

Selected by the Storm in the second round (19th overall) of the virtual WNBA 2020 Draft, Holmes averaged 11.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per game over her career at the University of Texas, Austin. With a program-record seven consecutive double-doubles to start her senior campaign, Holmes paced the Longhorns with 13.1 points and was second in rebounding with 8.7 boards per game in 2019-20. A 2017 All-Big 12 First Team selection and two-time All-Big 12 Honorable Mention, she earned 2017 Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors and was a top-10 finalist for the 2020 Katrina McClain Award.

Gorecki, the Storm’s 2020 third-round (31st overall) pick, averaged a career-high 18.5 points and 4.4 assists per game in her final year at Duke University. In back-to-back seasons, she led the Blue Devils in average points, rebounds and assists. A top-5 finalist for the 2020 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award and two-time All-ACC First Team selection, Gorecki also garnered 2020 All-ACC Defensive Team honors.

With the team’s 2020 first round draft selection, guard Kitija Laksa, electing to remain in her native Latvia this season, Seattle’s roster is set at 12.
