Seattle Storm to Feature ‘Swedish Cancer Institute’ on Breast Health Awareness Jerseys

Storm to Fundraise for Swedish Through Online Auction

SEATTLE – The Seattle Storm today announced the specifics for Breast Health Awareness Night presented by Swedish Cancer Institute. As the Storm faces Los Angeles at 7 p.m. PT on Friday, Aug. 26 at KeyArena, fans can donate to Swedish Cancer Institute through a live auction and learn about more ways to support the cause.

“The Breast Health Awareness platform provides a special night for our organization and fans to come together to help those affected by cancer,” said Storm President & GM Alisha Valavanis. “The opportunity to partner with Swedish Cancer Institute to raise awareness and financial support is at the core of why the Storm and Swedish partnership is so impactful. We are committed to supporting the ongoing efforts of Swedish, the Official Medical Provider of the Storm.”

For the game against Los Angeles, the Storm will wear pink jerseys featuring Swedish Cancer Institute’s logo, marking the first time a WNBA team’s jersey sponsor is altered for a single game. In April, the Storm entered into a multi-year marquee deal with Swedish Medical Center that includes its logo on home and away jerseys.

Starting today, the Storm is hosting an online auction with all proceeds benefitting Swedish Cancer Institute. Fans can purchase the pink jerseys worn by the Storm in Friday’s game, featuring autographs from each player. Also available in the auction are autographed items from Seattle Seahawks players, Seattle Sounders FC players and WNBA stars. The auction can be accessed here, and it will remain open until 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Items will be displayed at the game, as fans in attendance are encouraged to bid using their mobile devices.

“We are thrilled to team up with the Storm on Breast Health Awareness Night. This night is such a great way to promote women’s health, provide education and increase awareness,” said Dr. Thomas Brown, executive director of the Swedish Cancer Institute and co-chairman of the Providence Health & Services Personalized Medicine Program. “We are so thankful for this opportunity as part of our partnership with the Storm and we look forward to connecting with fans at the game.”

The first 2,000 people in attendance will receive a Swedish and Storm-themed lunch bag, and fans will also be able to ask questions to Swedish doctors on the concourse inside the West entrance. On the West Plaza fans will be able to tour Swedish’s Mobile Mammography Program, which aims to make breast-cancer screening more convenient, increase outreach to underserved communities and reduce the disparities in care due to access.
