Seattle Storm Invites Fans to Join in Pride Celebration

Storm hosts Phoenix June 23 at 7 p.m. PT; invites fans to join team in Pride Parade June 25

SEATTLE – A showdown with Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury and a halftime performance by SassyBlack highlight the Seattle Storm’s Pride Night against Phoenix on June 23 at 7 p.m. PT.

The Storm also invites all fans to join the team in the annual Pride Parade, set to take place on Sunday, June 25.

“Creating space for our community to celebrate diversity, equality and inclusion while the Seattle Storm competes and entertains is exactly what our annual Pride game is all about,” said Storm President & GM Alisha Valavanis. “It’s a special night to highlight a platform to support the LGBTQ community and allies; this type of event is the essence of what we value as an organization.”

From rainbow thunderstix to a national anthem performance by Homophonic featuring Laura Clise, Athlete Ally Board of Director member, the evening is sure to be an exciting celebration of inclusion in sports, equality and diversity. A variety of activities and appearances will take place during the Storm’s Pride celebration, including:

A space aged singer, songwriter and producer out of Seattle, SassyBlack has been tabbed the ‘goddess of electronic psychedelic soul’ and ‘hologram funk.’ The popular artist most recently released her first solo record, “No More Weak Dates,” in May 2017, and will take the court at halftime for a special performance.

Supported by PricewaterhouseCoopers, the Storm will be handing out rainbow thunderstix to fans to join in the celebration and cheer on the team against the Mercury. A variety of Pride merchandise will also be available at the game, including Pride flags and tank tops.

The Storm will also be celebrating Pride at the Pride Picnic on Saturday, June 10, from Noon to 3 p.m. at Volunteer Park, and it will include an appearance by Doppler. On Sunday, June 25, the Storm will participate in the Pride Parade and invites fans to walk with the team.

Prior to tipoff against Phoenix, fans are encouraged to arrive early for Happy Hour from 6-7 p.m. The drink specials include $4 domestic beers and $5 premium beers.
