Jewell Loyd Named Seattle Women’s Sports Star of the Year

SEATTLE — Seattle Storm guard Jewell Loyd was named the Seattle Sports Commission’s Women’s Sports Star of the Year by the organization on Thursday night during a ceremony at the Weston Seattle.

Loyd had an historic 2023 season, breaking the WNBA’s single-season scoring record with 939 points, leading the league with 24.7 points per game, the second-highest in league history, and setting a storm record with 115 three-point field goals. She was named the 2023 WNBA All-Star Game MVP, setting an ASG record with 31 points including hitting 10 three-pointers. In addition, she tallied a WNBA record 21 games with 25 or more points, also tying the record with 12 games with 30 or more points.

Loyd, who accepted the award virtually from Indianapolis where she is prepping to participate in the NBA Celebrity All-Star Game on Friday night, signed a contract extension at the end of 2023 season to keep her in Seattle through at least the 2025 season.
