Awa Fam Named to Spanish FIBA World Cup Roster
SEATTLE — Seattle Storm center Awa Fam was selected to represent the Spanish National Team at the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup.
Fam, a WNBA rookie with veteran experience in the Euroleague, is averaging 10.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game for the Storm this season. She averages 27.6 minutes of play per game and is shooting 45.1% from the field and 35.5% from the three-point line.
The No. 3 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft leads all rookies in rebounds (5.7), offensive rebounds (1.9), and ranks second amongst rookies in blocks (0.9) per game. The 6-foot-4 Alicante, Spain, native became the first Storm rookie to average 12+ points and 5+ rebounds while shooting 50% from the field in the first 15 games of her career and holds the record for most offensive rebounds by a Storm player in their rookie season.
This marks Fam’s first senior level appearance at the FIBA World Cup, after winning silver with the Spanish Youth National Team during the 2023 U19 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup and the 2022 U17 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
The 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup takes place Sept. 4-13 in Berlin and will feature the world's top 16 national teams. Spain begins competition on Friday, Sept. 4 against Germany.
