SEATTLE - Seattle Storm head coach and director of player personnel Brian Agler announced today the signing of 5-4 guard AQuonesia Franklin for the remainder of the 2009 WNBA regular season since the Storms active roster dropped below nine players.
Because of her prior experience with us, AQuonesia will fill the void in our roster nicely, said Agler. We are pleased she was available to join us for the remainder of the season.
The Tyler, Texas native was added to the 2009 Storm training camp roster on May 7. She played one preseason game for Seattle, scoring three points, grabbing one rebound and handing out three assists in 18 minutes vs. Sacramento on May 21. The Storm waived Franklin on June 4, 2009.
Franklin averaged 1.6 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 34 games for the Monarchs in 2008. Selected by Sacramento in the third round (38th overall pick) of the 2008 WNBA Draft, the Texas A&M graduate finished her career ranked third all-time for the Aggies and fifth best in the Big 12 record books with 627 assists. Franklin also ranked 12th all-time in career scoring with 1,115 points, second all-time in career three-pointers made with 157 and sixth all-time in career steals with 209.
Single-game tickets for the Seattle Storms first home playoff game of the Western Conference Semifinals at KeyArena start at just $16. They can be purchased online at stormbasketball.com or by calling 1-877-WNBA-TIX.
