Storm Head Coach Dan Hughes Undergoes Surgery

SEATTLE – Seattle Storm head coach Dan Hughes today underwent surgery to remove a carcinoid tumor in his digestive tract, the team announced. Dr. Amir Bastawrous at the Swedish First Hill Campus in Seattle performed the procedure.

While recovering from surgery, Hughes will miss the Storm’s pair of preseason games. In his absence, assistant coach Gary Kloppenburg will act as head coach. No further timetable will be provided at this time.

“We are grateful that Dan had a successful surgery and is now on the road to recovery,” said Storm CEO and General Manager Alisha Valavanis. “Prior to surgery, Dan opened up training camp with the team and prepared the players and staff for our preseason games.”
