Seattle Storm to Fundraise for American Cancer Society on Aug. 16

SEATTLE – The Seattle Storm today announced Breast Health Awareness Night on August 16, against San Antonio. The night will raise money for American Cancer Society through a silent auction featuring game-worn pink jerseys from Storm players and jerseys from WNBA stars Elena Delle Donne and Maya Moore, a signed Laurel Richie WNBA basketball, and items from local Seattle teams, including a Pete Carroll signed football and Sounders team autographed jersey.

Breast cancer survivor Bridgette Heampstead will perform the National Anthem. Heampstead is president and founder of Cierra Sisters, inc., which provides support and encouragement to African American communities affected by breast cancer. Throughout the game, the Storm will honor cancer survivors and caregivers who are attending the game.

Partnering with Bright Pink, the Storm will provide fans with breast health education and awareness tips.

“Breast Health Awareness night is a special opportunity to come together to create visibility around an important cause,” said Storm President & GM Alisha Valavanis. “We will celebrate the work Bright Pink and the American Cancer Society do to encourage education and prevention, and look forward to honoring survivors and all those impacted by cancer.”

The Storm has provided complimentary game tickets to local cancer organizations to give to their dedicated staff and volunteers, as well as the communities they serve.
