Seattle signs three to training camp contracts

Alaina Coates, Kaela Davis, and Kiana Williams join the Storm

SEATTLE — The Seattle Storm announced today the signing of center Alaina Coates, forward Kaela Davis, and guard Kiana Williams to training camp contracts.

Coates and Davis were teammates at the University of South Carolina in 2016-17, helping the Gamecocks win the 2017 NCAA Championship. The two were also top picks in the 2017 WNBA draft with Coates going second overall and Davis selected with the No. 10 pick.

Coates, a 6-4 center, is entering her sixth season in the league and joining her seventh team. She has appeared in 95 games in her career, earning her first WNBA Championship as a member of the Las Vegas Aces last season. Coates appeared in 10 regular-season games to end the season with the Aces, then saw action in six playoff games. She started the season as a training camp signee in Atlanta, then appeared in two games with Phoenix before ending the year in Las Vegas.

Coates is currently playing for Nesibe of the Turkish KBSL, averaging 11.9 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.1 steals, 1.6 assists and 0.9 blocks per game. She has tallied a double-double in four of the last six games including a 23-point, 17-rebound performance in an overtime game against Mersin on Jan. 20.

Davis, a 6-2 forward, returns to Seattle after playing part of the 2022 season with the Storm on a pair of hardship contracts. She was drafted by Dallas and spent three seasons (2017-19) with the Wings, where she averaged 6.0 points in 19.2 minutes in 33 games in her most recent season with the team (2019). In 2020, Davis was picked up by the Atlanta Dream, appearing in two games with the Dream. She spent time with three teams—Chicago, Seattle, and Phoenix—during the 2022 season.

Williams, a 5-8 guard out of Stanford, is also no stranger to Seattle. She was the Storm’s second-round pick (No. 18 overall) in the 2021 draft and played parts of her first two seasons in the league in Seattle. Williams appeared in 10 games during her rookie campaign, scoring her first WNBA points on a four-point play at Connecticut on June 13—becoming the only player in league history to earn her first points in that fashion. In 2022, Williams appeared in games with three teams including the Storm. She is currently playing with Bursa, also in the Turkish KBSL, averaging 17.8 points, 5.1 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 19 games this season.

Season tickets, Storm Mini Plans, and Group Experiences are available for the 2024 season while single game tickets will go on sale in the spring. For more info, visit http://stormbasketball.com, or call 206-217-WNBA (9622).
