Storm to Celebrate Japanese Culture and Forward Ramu Tokashiki

SEATTLE – The Seattle Storm today announced on the July 21 game against the New York Liberty, the team will celebrate Japan and Seattle rookie Ramu Tokashiki.

Halftime will feature a performance from The School of TAIKO. A Seattle-based program, the School of TAIKO teaches children the art of Japanese drumming and other musical instruments.

“Ramu is a impactful member of our team and her influence on the court is undeniable,” said Storm President & GM Alisha Valavanis. “Celebrate Japan Night will be an opportunity for the Storm to thank Ramu for her contribution to the team and to celebrate Japanese culture.”

In addition to celebrating Japanese culture in the Seattle community, July 21 will also honor standout rookie Tokashiki and the impact she has made on the Storm. Averaging 7.2 points per game and 19.2 minutes per game, Tokashiki has played in every one of Seattle’s regular season games. In a stretch that saw Seattle on the road in four of its last five games, Tokashiki has shown great maturation on the court. Tokashiki started her first WNBA game on June 27 at San Antonio scoring 14 points and scored a career-high 21 points and dished out four blocks against Tulsa the next day.

Before making her WNBA debut, Tokashiki was commanding the Women’s Japan Basketball League. Tokashiki led the WJBL in scoring (18 points per game), rebounding (11.5 per game), blocked shots (2.13 per game) and field-goal percentage (59.8%) in the 2014-2015 season. She was also named WJBL’s 2014-2015 MVP.
