After three straight tough losses that have come down to the wire, Seattle will aim to snap that streak when it wraps up the back-to-back stretch at Tulsa on Sunday.
The Storm are in the midst of a five-of-six away from home but will return home to face Tulsa on Tuesday at KeyArena.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Ramu Tokashiki
Ramu Tokashiki made her first start of the season on Saturday and made the best of her opportunity. She scored a career-high 14 points on 7-for-13 from the field and grabbed four rebounds and had two assists.
LAST TIME VS. TULSA
Nothing would fall for the Storm in the first meeting with Tulsa as it shot 24 percent from the field in a 68-45 loss. Renee Montgomery led the team with 10 points off the bench and still held Tulsa to 36.5 percent shooting from the field and a season-low 68 points. The bench scored 29 points in the game.
GETTING OFF TO GOOD STARTS
Seattle has jumped out of the gates strong the past two games and is averaging 45.5 points in the first half during that stretch. Additionally, the team is shooting 53.6 percent and has tallied 22 total assists during the first half over the last two games.
SUE PASSES SHERYL
With her three pointer late in the fourth quarter on Thursday, Sue Bird eclipsed Sheryl Swoopes for 13th on the WNBA’s all-time scoring list. She has averaged 15 points in her two games this week and now sits at 4,890. The next two on the list are Taj McWilliams-Franklin, who finished with 5,013 points, and Tangela Smith with 5,048.
‘THE BENCH MOB’
The bench continues to impress in the early part of the season and has been a difference maker through the first eight games. It provided that instant burst in the first quarter on Thursday with 13 points in the period and then got seven more from Markeisha Gatling in the second. The bench poured in 20 points against Minnesota and, entering the weekend, has averaged 26.7 points through the first seven games, which is fourth best in the league.
SCOUTING TULSA
Tulsa has rushed out to the best record in the West through the first month of the season and that is in large part due to the Shock’s balanced attack and Skylar Diggins. Diggins is averaging 16.1 points and is shooting a scalding 47.6 percent from three. She is one of three active players who is averaging in double figures scoring. Riquana Williams is averaging 12 points off the bench.
KEYS TO THE GAME
The Storm has gotten off to good starts in each of the last two games. That trend will need to continue but sustaining it will be critical. After having 11 assists on its first 17 baskets on Saturday, the Storm had only five assists on its final 12 makes. Moving with and without the ball is what has made Seattle successful to this point.
