A huge fourth quarter lifted the Seattle Storm over the Dallas Wings 97-76 on Sunday in Arlington to help Seattle improve the 10-4 on the season.

Breanna Stewart led the way for the Storm with 28 points and 12 rebounds, marking her second double-double of the season.

Seattle had four other players score in double figures in Natasha Howard (13), Jewell Loyd (12), Sue Bird (10) and Sami Whitcomb (12).

The Storm shot 52.9 percent from the field for the game including 13 three-pointers.

DEFINING MOMENTS

Seattle opened up the second period outscoring the Wings 12-2 to gain a double-digit advantage over Dallas early. The Wings were able to get its offense going later in the period, but the Storm still managed to take a seven-point lead into halftime at 49-42.

A 9-0 run from the Wings in the third period gave the lead back to Dallas at 56-55 with 4:47 left in the third. Seattle converted on a few big buckets to close out the third quarter to reclaim the lead and take a 68-64 lead into the final period.

The Storm and Wings traded buckets in the early part of the fourth quarter until Seattle went on a 22-0 run to go up 92-71 with 2:35 left in the game. Dallas waived the white flag at that point and put in the reserves, as the Storm eventually won the game by 21.

HUGHES TAKE

As the huge fourth quarter run was the defining moment in the game, head coach Dan Hughes thought his team’s play on both sides of the ball was key in the run taking place.

“I think it started defensively, I thought we just got more aggressive in the schemes that we were doing and I thought it really allowed us to gain a little momentum out of our defense and then we hit big shots. Sue did a great job of just getting the ball to people, Stewie was really good down the stretch doing things and I thought Jewell did a great job of picking moments late in the shot clock that she could make plays.”
