Stewart averaged 25.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game through opening four games

SEATTLE — Seattle Storm forward Breanna Stewart was named Western Conference Player of the Week for the opening week of the 2021 WNBA season Monday. In her first four games, Stewart averaged a league-leading 25.8 points per game, and ranked No. 3 in rebounds per game (10.5) and No. 5 in blocks per game (2.3).

Stewart recorded three double-doubles in the WNBA’s opening week, including a 36 point, 11 rebound, 5 block performance against the Dallas Wings on May 22. Her 36 points were the most in the WNBA this season and tied for the third most in Storm history, behind Lauren Jackson‘s 47 and her own 38-point rookie year performance.

Against Dallas, in her 125th career game, Stewart also passed 2500 points, becoming the fourth fastest player to reach that threshold and the fastest to achieve 2500 points and 1000 rebounds, a record previously held by the Storm’s Lauren Jackson. She currently has 2516 points and 1095 rebounds in six seasons.

This is Stewart’s seventh Player of the Week honor, and second consecutive after bracketing 2020 with Player of the Week wins in the first and final weeks of the season. She is only the third player in WNBA history to win the first Player of the Week honors in consecutive seasons, alongside Candace Parker (2012, 2013) and Elena Delle Donne (2014, 2015).
