Seattle Announces Current 12-Player Roster
Meighan Simmons Waived
SEATTLE – The Seattle Storm today announced its 12-player roster as training camp comes to a close ahead of the 2015 season opener on June 6. Seattle waived Meighan Simmons with its final cut on June 4. Returning to Seattle from last season is Sue Bird, Alysha Clark, Jenna O’Hea and Crystal Langhorne. Seattle welcomes rookies Jazmine Davis, Jewell Loyd, Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, Vicky McIntyre and Ramu Tokashiki.
Bird returns to Seattle for her 14th season, using her experience to lead the young Storm roster. Clark will also be a familiar face to Storm fans, returning to Seattle for a fourth season. Two-time (2011, 2013) WNBA All-Star, Seattle veteran Langhorne also brings her seven years experience to the team. Langhorne led Seattle in scoring last season with 12.9 points per game. With four years in the WNBA, and completing the 2014 season with the Storm, O’Hea also returns to Seattle.
After a remarkable season with the Canberra Captials in Australia, Abby Bishop re-signed with Seattle where she made her WNBA debut in 2010. Seattle traded with the Washington Mystics in February 2015 to acquire Quanitra Hollingsworth who spent her 2013-14 and 2014-15 season with Fernerbache, Turkey. In another trade, Seattle acquired Renee Montgomery from the Connecticut Sun with an average of 6.7 points per game with Connecticut last season.
The 2015 roster also includes five rookies: 2015 first overall draft pick Jewell Loyd; 2015 third overall draft pick Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis; second round pick Vicky McIntyre; former Washington Huskies player Jazmine Davis and two-time WJBL MVP, Ramu Tokashiki from Japan. Loyd brought a lot of excitement and anticipation to the draft when she declared early, leaving Notre Dame at the end of her junior year. Loyd was also a member of the USA 3×3 World Championship Team where she was the second-leading scorer among all players in the tournament. Mosqueda-Lewis comes to Seattle as a three-time NCAA champion (2013, 2014, 2015) with the UConn Huskies and holding the NCAA all-time record for three-pointers made. After finishing her eligibility at Oral Roberts University, where she set ORU and summit league single-season (537) record for rebounds, McIntyre joins the Storm. Davis leaves Washington as the program’s all-time leading scorer. The leading scorer in the WJBL, Tokashiki signed as a free agent with the Storm in April 2015.
