Storm add guard Arella Guirantes

Former Rutgers star comes to Seattle after strong international performances

SEATTLE — The Seattle Storm announced today the signing of free agent guard Arella Guirantes. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Guirantes, a second-round pick by Los Angeles in the 2021 WNBA Draft (No. 22 overall) out of Rutgers University, appeared in 25 games her rookie season, making a pair of starts. After the 2022 season, she represented Puerto Rico at the FIBA World Cup, averaging 18.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game in six games at the tournament.

Guirantes is currently playing for DVTK Miskolc in Hungary where is has posted an impressive stat line, averaging 15.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game in EuroLeague play. She has scored 20+ points in her last three games including a pair of 20+ point/16+ rebound double-doubles. In Hungary’s A-Division, Guirantes is averaging 15.4 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game in 14 contests, scoring in double-figures in 12 games and tallying 20+ three times.

Guirantes, a native of Bellport, New York, finished her collegiate career at Rutgers University with 1,676 career points, earning All-American honors twice and All-Big Ten honors three times. She graduated as the only player in program history to average 20+ points, 6+ rebounds and 3+ assists per game, doing it in back-to-back seasons (2019-20 and 2020-21).
