As a countdown to New Year, the Seattle Storm is revisiting some of the most memorable moments of the 2017 campaign, starting with No. 10 on Dec. 22, all the way to the top moment of the season on Dec. 31.
Breanna Stewart becomes the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 1,000 points and 500 rebounds, doing it in just 55 games.
WHY IT WAS SPECIAL
- It’s hard to believe Stewart capped just her second WNBA season, as she’s already demolished league records dating back to 2000. In 55 games, Stewart became the fastest player to collect 1,000 points and 500 boards, besting Natalie Williams’ tally of 56 games spanning the 1999-2000 seasons with the Utah Starzz. Stewart accomplished the feat on July 28 vs. Dallas in a 109-93 win over the Wings.
- In the game prior at Los Angeles on July 25, Stewart scored her 1,000th-career point at the 7:08 mark of the first quarter. She became the third Storm player (Jewell Loyd, Alysha Clark) to achieve that feat in 2017.
- Stewart tied WNBA great Tamika Catchings for the fourth fastest in league history to score 1,000 points, doing it in just 54 games (Cynthia Cooper, 45 games; Seimone Augustus, 46 games; Elena Delle Donne, 52 games; Tamika Catchings, 54 games).
- Stewart also set the Storm single-season record for 20-point games with 21, besting Lauren Jackson’s mark of 20 during the 2003 season. She broke the record in an 85-80 win over Chicago on Sept. 3, registering 29 points on 9-for-17 shooting.
