Washington, through the Austen Everett Foundation, will be an honorary WNBA All-Star player

SEATTLE – The Seattle Storm’s 10-time WNBA All-Star Sue Bird, and ABC’s sideline reporter for Verizon WNBA All-Star 2017, Holly Rowe, will host a press conference to sign Eniyah Washington to a WNBA All-Star contract for the Western Conference team, through the Austen Everett Foundation.

The press conference will take place at 1:45 p.m. PT on Friday, July 21 at KeyArena.

The All-Star Game, televised nationally by ABC and broadcast globally in more than 200 countries and territories, will take place on Saturday, July 22 (3:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. PT) at KeyArena, home of the Seattle Storm.

Eniyah, also known as Niyah, was diagnosed on Nov. 3, 2016 at age 6 with Acute Lymphoblast Leukemia. Coming to the end of her intensive chemotherapy process, she will undergo maintenance for two years to ensure she stays in remission.

“I am thrilled to welcome Eniyah to the Western Conference All-Star Team,” said Bird. “She brings a level of toughness, fight and strength to our team; we are inspired by her journey and are honored to have her with us today.”

Founded by Seattle native Austen Everett in 2011, the Austen Everett Foundation works to inspire, empower and embolden the lives of hundreds of kids fighting cancer by Uniting the Fight of these extraordinary individuals with professional and collegiate athletic teams. While playing goalkeeper for the University of Miami women’s soccer team, Everett was diagnosed with stage 4 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, and after recognizing the empowerment her team provided, Everett began her dream of providing that same strength and support to all kids fighting this difficult fight.

In addition to providing an empowering experience with renewed hope, courage and determination, the goal of the Austen Everett Foundation is to link every child who is fighting cancer with the opportunity to be honored by a professional or collegiate athletic team. This year, that Honorary All-Star is Niyah, whose hobbies include basketball, playing outside and finding bugs.
