EVERETT, WASH. – The Seattle Storm will celebrate three-time WNBA champion Sue Bird on Friday, June 21 at 7:30 p.m. PT with ‘SUEperhero Night’ supported by Anthony’s Restaurants. Bird will be in attendance for the game against the Los Angeles Sparks at Angel of the Winds Arena as she continues rehabilitation on her left knee following arthroscopic surgery.
Fans of all ages are encouraged to participate in the Anthony’s Woodfire Grill Costume Contest by dressing up as their favorite superheroes.* The best-dressed superhero in the crowd will be presented with a signed Sue Bird jersey and $100 Anthony’s gift card. All fans will also receive $10 towards any purchase of the Sue Bird “Legend” t-shirt at the Seattle Storm Team Shop.
Sporting a facemask to protect her broken nose, Bird scored 14 points in the fourth quarter of the winner-take-all Game 5 vs. the Phoenix Mercury to clinch the Storm’s third appearance in the WNBA Finals.
“The Storm Crazies are a fan base that bring the creativity and the energy every game,” said Bird. “This ‘SUEperhero’ concept came about organically in the playoffs last year when our fans saw my facemask which adds a cool element to this night.”
The league’s all-time leader in assists (2,831) and games played (508), Bird has dominated at every level, with two NCAA Championships, four Olympic gold medals, four FIBA World Championships, four EuroLeague Championships and three WNBA Championships to her name. More than a decade after the Seattle Storm selected her No. 1 overall in the 2002 WNBA Draft, Bird averaged a career-high 7.1 assists per game in 2018 and was named to her league-record 11th All-Star Game. She is also a three-time winner of the Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award, which is presented each season to the WNBA player who exemplifies the ideals of sportsmanship, including ethical behavior, fair play and integrity.
Raise the trophy with the Storm with a Storm 360 Membership, package or group experience available online or by calling (206) 217-WNBA (9622). Single-game tickets are available at StormBasketball.com.
*No toy weapons will be permitted inside the arena.
