Seattle to Host Third Annual ‘Storm Into S.T.E.M.’ Preseason Game

Seattle will face Phoenix at KeyArena on Wednesday, May 3

SEATTLE – The Seattle Storm today announced two 2017 preseason games, both against the Phoenix Mercury. In conjunction with the preseason game on Wednesday, May 3 at 11:30 a.m., the Storm will host its annual ‘Storm into S.T.E.M. School Day.’

“We are thrilled to open our Storm season highlighting youth education in the greater Puget Sound community,” said Storm President & GM Alisha Valavanis. “Our players are impactful role models and the ‘Storm into S.T.E.M. School Day’ platform aligns with our continued commitment to support youth education in Seattle.”

The ‘Storm into S.T.E.M. School Day’ preseason game will open with a student robotics showcase, featuring several middle school and high school robotics teams throughout Washington state at 10:30 a.m. Tickets start at $10, with a complimentary chaperone ticket available per 10 student tickets purchased. Fans can register their students here.

“The STORM into S.T.E.M. event provides an avenue to introduce many young students, especially females, to hands-on technology, rich and fun opportunities with robotics, 3D printing and our Wind Turbine teams,” said Donna Lew, founder of XBOT Robotics, a program that serves the students of Franklin High School. “Partnerships and support by professional sports organizations such as the Storm enables XBOT Robotics to reach out and attract young females into the S.T.E.M. arena, which unfortunately is still underrepresented today. Our students look forward to participating again at the Storm into S.T.E.M. game!”

The team will then head to Phoenix for its final tune-up game before the 2017 regular season begins. Tipoff is set for May 7 at 3 p.m. at Talking Stick Resort Arena.

Seattle is coming off its first playoff appearance since 2013, and will welcome back 2016 Rookie of the Year Breanna Stewart, 2015 WNBA Rookie of the Year Jewell Loyd and 2016 All-WNBA First Team selection Sue Bird.

As previously announced by the WNBA, Seattle has been selected to host Verizon WNBA All-Star 2017. The game is set for 12:30 p.m. on July 22, 2017 at KeyArena.

Seattle opens its home schedule on May 14 vs. Indiana at KeyArena. Secure the best seats in the house with Storm 360 Memberships, available now, starting at $180, available online or by calling (206) 217-WNBA (9622). For package and group rates, please call 206-217-WNBA (9622).
