Breanna Stewart to Throw Out First Pitch at April 30 Mariners Game

Four-Time NCAA Champion, Final-Four MVP Drafted First Overall by Seattle

SEATTLE – Following Thursday’s WNBA Draft presented by State Farm, during which Seattle selected Breanna Stewart, a 6-4 forward from the University of Connecticut, the Storm and Seattle Mariners have announced that she will throw out the first pitch on April 30. The Mariners play the defending World Series Champion Kansas City Royals at 6:10 p.m. PDT that evening.

In addition to the first pitch, Stewart will host a meet-and-greet during the first and second innings on the concourse of Safeco Field. Fans can purchase tickets for the game and the meet-and-greet here. The first 20,000 fans to arrive at Safeco Field will be given a Nelson Cruz bobblehead.

During a historic, unprecedented career at Connecticut, Stewart won four consecutive national championships and guided the Huskies to a pair of perfect seasons (2013-14 and 2015-16). She was named Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four in each of her team’s title runs and won AP Player of the Year three straight seasons.

A four-year starter at Connecticut, Stewart becomes the fifth Husky to be selected with the top pick in the WNBA draft. She finished her college career with a 151-5 record after leading the Huskies in scoring for the past three seasons. During her senior year, Stewart averaged 19.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.5 blocks per game while shooting 58.3 percent from the field and 41.8 percent from the 3-point line.

Stewart is the only player in Division I women’s basketball history to record 300 blocks and 300 assists in her career. At the 2013 Final Four, she became the first freshman in 26 years to earn the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player award. Stewart has also played for the United States National Team, helping the USA win gold at the 2014 FIBA World Championship.

Yesterday, the Storm announced that the franchise has entered into an exclusive, multi-year deal with Swedish Medical Center. The new agreement designates Swedish as the ‘Official Medical Care Team of the Seattle Storm’ and includes Swedish branding on the Storm’s home and away jerseys. Stewart offered fans in attendance and watching the national broadcast on ESPN2 their first look at the 2016 Storm jerseys tonight when she held up the green jersey on stage at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
