Heidi VanDerveer spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the Storm, having been originally named to the position on Feb. 6, 2006. The Storm made the playoffs in both of VanDerveer's years in Seattle. On Aug. 28, 2007, she was released from the final year of her contract, allowing her to take a position as associate head coach at San Diego State University.

A native of Chautauqua, N.Y., VanDerveer was named head coach of the Minnesota Lynx in July 2002 and served as an assistant under Brian Agler for the three previous seasons. VanDerveer was head coach of the Sacramento Monarchs in 1997 and 1998 after beginning her WNBA career as an assistant for the team.

Prior to joining the Monarchs, VanDerveer served as the head women�s basketball coach at Eastern Washington University for three seasons. Her tenure at EWU was highlighted by back-to-back postseason appearances (1995 and 1996) in the Big Sky Conference tournament. Prior to taking the helm at EWU, VanDerveer served as an assistant for six seasons (1988 through 1994) at the University of South Carolina.

As a graduate assistant under Pat Summitt at the University of Tennessee, VanDerveer played an active role in the school�s national championship in 1987 and its 1988 Final Four appearance.
