Stanford earns top seed for tournament at KeyArena

WALNUT CREEK, Calif - CALIFORNIA and STANFORD clinched a share of the Pac-12 regular-season title, but the Cardinal earned the top seed at the 2013 Pac-12 Womens Basketball Tournament for the 12th consecutive year by virtue of the tie-breaker rule. The tournament moves to the city of Seattle and will take place Thursday-Sunday, March 7-10 at KeyArena. Tickets are still available for purchase.

In addition to moving to Seattle, every game of the tournament will be nationally televised for the first time ever. The first 10 games will be broadcast on the Conferences Pac-12 Networks with the title matchup being televised on ESPN2. Authenticated subscribers can also watch every game on the internet (Pac-12.com for the first 10 games and ESPN3.com for the final game) and with the Pac-12 Now app.

The No. 4/5 Cardinal claimed its 22nd all-time regular-season crown, going 17-1 in Conference play during the regular season. Its only loss came to second-seeded and sixth-ranked Cal, who claimed the programs first-ever league title this year. Both teams earned a first-round bye, with No. 17/16 UCLA (14-4) and No. 19/19 COLORADO (13-5) also earning a pass for the first day of competition.

WASHINGTON earns its best seed since the 2006-07 campaign, entering the tournament as the No. 5 seed by virtue of an 11-7 regular-season Pac-12 record. UTAH is the No. 6 seed after going 8-10 on the season and USC is the No. 7 seed, finishing at 7-11.

WASHINGTON STATE will be the eighth seed after posting a 6-12 league record and ARIZONA STATE is the No. 9 seed after going 5-13.

Rounding out the bracket are ARIZONA and OREGON STATE who are tied with a 4-14 regular-season league mark, but the Beavers hold the edge on the Wildcats and are the No. 10 seed, while the UA is No. 11. OREGON (2-16) is the No. 12 seed.

The Pac-12 Tournament tips off on Thursday, March 7 with the No. 7 Trojans and No. 10 Beavers at noon on the Pac-12 Networks. Games on Thursday and Friday tip off at noon, 2:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. On Saturday, the semifinals are scheduled for 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., with the championship game slated for a 5 p.m. start on ESPN2.

The bracket was flipped for this years Pac-12 Womens Basketball Tournament to enhance the experience for the student-athletes and fans during the Thursday and Friday evening sessions. The evening session of the first day will be of particular interest to the local market with the Cougars taking on ASU and the Huskies playing the Ducks at 6 p.m. and approximately 8:30 p.m., respectively.

The city of Seattle is a great supporter of womens basketball and is sure to deliver a dynamic atmosphere for fans and student-athletes alike at its premier womens sporting event. KeyArena, home to the two-time WNBA Champion Seattle Storm, has entertained more than 10 million guests as the citys best venue for sports, concerts and family entertainment. A commuter-friendly city, fans have a convenient link between downtown Seattle and Seattle Center with the Seattle Center Monorail.

Stanford is the six-time defending tournament champion, winning nine times overall. ASU won the inaugural title in 2002 and UCLA upset the Cardinal in 2006 to claim the leagues tournament crown.
